Flying cars to take off in five years

Flying cars to take off in five years

Prototypes to be unveiled in London this month…

After the invention of the internal combustion engine, electric vehicles were the next great revolution in cars.

While, currently only the stuff of sci-fi fantasies, flying cars will be the next natural progression for automobiles as we leave our terrestrial confines.

Prototypes of these flying vehicles will be previewed at the Intelligent Mobility industry event in London on the 29th of June.

With names like the PAL-V, Terrafugia, Aeromobil, Ehang, Kitty Hawk and E-Volo, it’s hard to know what to expect but all have completed at least one test flight and some vehicles have planned launch dates of 2022.

Growth and partnership company Frost & Sullivan is hosting the event and predicts there will be a surge in investment by manufacturers, start-ups and aerospace companies over the next 10 years.

Sarwant Singh from F&S says aside from personal transport, commercial applications and services will be the first function with a target of 2035.

“From flying vehicle rides in amusement parks, aerial sightseeing of landmarks, to a star attraction at events, the recreational potential of flying vehicles is limitless.”

Here’s hoping the flying cars of the future are more Blade Runner, Star Wars or the Fifth Element and less like Chitty-Chitty Bang-Bang.

Watch this space……no, look up.
