Wiper fault sparks Mitsubishi ASX recall

Concerns fault could lead to wiper motor failure in ASX SUVs…

One of Australia’s best-selling compact SUVs, the Mitsubishi ASX, is being recalled after a possibly serious windscreen wiper fault was identified.

The recall affects ASX SUVs manufactured between 2011 and 2013 and is being overseen by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

The recall notice advises that the structure of the front deck of the vehicle allows water intrusion onto the windshield wiper motor, which is drawn into the motor’s breather hole as it cools down after use.

This can cause internal parts of the front windshield wiper motor to rust or seize up and the wipers may become inoperative.

What are the hazards?

If the front windshield wipers fail, driver visibility in wet weather would be affected, possibly causing an accident.

When parts become available, Mitsubishi Motors Australia will contact all known affected owners by mail, advising them to contact their local dealer to arrange an inspection and possible replacement of the front windshield wiper motor.

Further info is also available from Mitsubishi dealers (locate your nearest dealer here) or Mitsubishi Motors Australia on 1300 131 211.
