Volvo turns up the heat with S60 Polestar

Only 50 versions of the high-performance Volvo are coming to Australia.

A limited production run of just 50 cars has been developed exclusively for the Australian market.

Volvo is set to smash its “ultra conservative” reputation once and for all when the S60 Polestar arrives in Volvo dealerships in coming weeks.

Only 50 versions of the high-performance sedan will hit Australian roads, if it proves popular the model may be offered in other markets.

Despite the small production number the model looks set to make a big impression.

Boasting 257kW and 508Nm, the Polestar looks to be anything but a ‘pretend’ sports car!

The S60 Polestar is the first road car from Volvo Car Group’s performance and motorsport partner Polestar and the team has certainly gone to town on the model.

The six-cylinder turbo-charged Volvo T6 engine has been given a bigger turbo, new intercooler, revised engine mapping and racing exhaust.

To complement the impressive powertrain the S60 Polestar gets;

  • An extensively-developed, highly-tuned chassis
  • Öhlins dampers
  • Upgraded high-performance brakes
  • Aerodynamic package with front splitter, rear wing and diffuser

Volvo says the S60 Polestar accelerates from 0-100km/h in just 4.9 seconds, via a Polestar-tuned six-speed automatic gearbox – which also features a launch control system – and a Polestar-tuned Haldex 4WD system.

Matt Braid, Managing Director of Volvo Car Australia, says the new model is more than capable of making a mark in the performance car segment of the market.

“The Australian market for performance cars is – and always been – strong,”

“The work done by Polestar on the S60 is impressive to say the least – they have transformed the already fun to drive Volvo S60 into a great handling driver’s car. Its point-to-point ability – in all weather – is second to none.”
