Volkswagen shrugs off bad publicity to claim UK Green Award.

Volkswagen Golf wins Environmental Award - the Golf GTE can travel around 49 kilometres on a full charge.

It’s been a tough few months for the Volkswagen team, but there was reason to smile in the UK overnight with the Volkswagen Golf GTE hybrid being named the top Green Apple Award winner.

The awards are made by The Green Organisation, a not for profits group which invites entries from all parts of industry, this year judges paid tribute to the Golf GTE for being both environmentally friendly and good to drive.

Green Apple Award judges said the Volkswagen Golf GTE was exactly what a hybrid car should be.

The Volkswagen Golf GTE beat another VW Group car, the Skoda Fabia diesel to take the top award. Sadly, at this stage the VW Golf GTE isn’t planned for Australia. While other category winners at this year’s Green Apple Awards included the BMW 320d and Mazda2.
