U.S. car sales slip again in June

Car sales down another 3.5% in June

The U.S. car market in 2017 is on track for around a 2.0% reduction in overall new car sales in 2017.

Sales data for June has just been released and the market dipped a full 3.0% compared to the same month last year.

It was the sixth straight month that car sales dropped and while disappointing, Edmunds.com analyst Jessica Caldwell has told Automotive News that it wasn’t unexpected.

“June is sandwiched between two major holiday sales events, which makes it a bit of a gloomy month historically,”

In total, U.S. car buyers purchased 1,469,494 new vehicles in the month.

While brands that struggled in June included Chrysler (-21.4%), Hyundai (-10.1%), Lexus (-11.7%) and Volvo (-7.0%).
