Trucks advised to be more visible

The ATA has met at the Industry Technical Council to discuss the safety benefits of high visibility markings on the side and rear of trucks.

They are now strongly advising that all truck owners a higher level of lighting and reflector requirements based on the findings of a recent US study.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that the use of retroreflective tape on trucks improved low light visibility in rear end collisions by 41% and 37% in side collisions.

The ATA will update their Technical Advisory Procedure to include guidance on increasing visibility on roads such as recommended marking materials and ideal placement on the vehicle.
