Toyota Upgrades HiLux Double Cab

But changes bring HiLux price increases of between $500 and $1000.

Toyota has announced another upgrade of the HiLux, this time the 4×4 Double Cab gets a make-over with mechanical, comfort and safety enhancements.

And that safety upgrade means the popular model will now boast a full five-star ANCAP safety rating.

After falling behind rivals such as the Ford Ranger, Mazda BT-50 and Holden Colorado on the safety front, the upgrades to enable for the qualification of the top safety rating include; the standard fitment of stability and traction control, brake assist and electronic brake-force distribution.

Toyota says a front passenger seat-belt reminder is also part of the package on 4×4 vehicles and, for Double Cabs, a three-point seatbelt for the centre-rear seating position.

Other significant changes announced by Toyota include a new five-speed automatic transmission for 4×4 turbo-diesel models. This, they say, will see fuel consumption in the model drop by more than six per cent.

HiLux Double Cabs also benefit from a host of other improvements, including new display audio systems and fresh interior colours and materials.
