Toyota stretches Corolla for 2014

New Thai built Corolla here next month with stretched wheelbase.

The current generation Corolla sedan and hatch.

Australia’s favourite car is set to boast new levels of interior space with the latest generation Corolla boasting a wheelbase 100mm longer than the current model.

Toyota Australia today announced the new, larger Corolla will also be built in Thailand, a first for the model, and the new offering will be in local dealerships from the middle of February.

Toyota Australia’s executive director of sales and marketing Tony Cramb said the extra space between front and rear axles delivers a more spacious cabin.

“That 100mm is very important inside a car where more than half of the extra length has been devoted to improving the space and comfort of rear-seat passengers, including a significant increase in knee room,”

Mr Cramb said the Corolla cabin will also boast redesigned seats and a larger boot.

And Toyota Australia has also moved to reassure Corolla buyers that the move to Thai production won’t mean a drop in the models legendary build quality and reliability credentials.
