New seven-seat diesel Toyota Fortuner SUV unveiled.
A new Toyota SUV model looks set to make a storm in Australia with the new Toyota Fortuner confirmed to arrive here in October.
Revealed only this morning, the new seven-seat SUV has a big advantage over the long-established Toyota Kluger in that it will come with a much more efficient turbo-diesel engine than the V6 petrol unit found under the Kluger’s bonnet.
The turbo-diesel engine, Toyota’s 2.8 litre unit that produces 130kW and a meaty 450Nm, will be the only engine option in the Fortuner. Transmission choices will be six-speed manual or six-speed automatic. Combined fuel consumption is expected to come in just below 8.0L/100kms.
To be offered in three model grades - GX, GXL and Crusade, the Toyota Fortuner will offer up to a 3,000kg towing capacity, low-range 4×4 and a rear diff lock.
Toyota Australia are yet to confirm pricing details for the new Fortuner but executive director sales and marketing Tony Cramb said the new model is expected to sell in healthy numbers.
“Fortuner’s strength and refinement ensures it is equally at home on the school run as on the toughest off-road trails found in Australia,”
“Fortuner shares the rugged underpinnings of the ‘unbreakable’ HiLux, allowing owners to travel to - and return from - places many other SUVs simply can’t go.
“At the same time, Fortuner’s unique design suits the advanced tastes of modern SUV buyers while being equipped with a comprehensive list of features appreciated by families and business owners.
“Fortuner provides a diesel alternative to the petrol-only Kluger range as the new entry point for customers looking to purchase a large Toyota diesel SUV.”
We will keep you updated with all pricing and specification details for the new Toyota Fortuner when confirmed by Toyota Australia.
