Takata Airbag Recall affects another 179,000 cars sold in Australia…

Toyota Australia has just announced that an additional 179,710 of its vehicles sold in Australia will also be recalled as part of the global Takata Airbag Recall.

Affecting almost every Japanese manufacturer, as well as others, Toyota had already confirmed Australian delivered versions of the Echo, Yaris, Corolla, Avensis Verso and RAV4 were affected.

Thankfully, there have been no reports of any incidents or injuries regarding the faulty airbags in Australia.

Now, according to Toyota, Avensis Verso, Corolla and Yaris vehicles with build dates ranging between March 2007 and December 2011 are also affected.

Toyota adds thousands of cars to airbag recall

Once again, Toyota advises that the recall is due to the possibility that the front passenger airbag inflators may be susceptible to moisture intrusion over time.

If this happens, this could potentially make the inflator assembly prone to rupture during an accident, increasing the risk of injury to the occupant.

Toyota Australia tell us that replacement parts are expected to become available during the second quarter of next year and all affected vehicle owners will be contacted within the next few weeks.
