Toyota 86 Racing Accessible on a Budget

Toyota 86 Racing Series access for less than $70,000.

If becoming a name in motorsport is a passion of yours, or you just want to try your hand at a competitive race series, the 2016 Toyota 86 Racing Series could be what you are looking for.

Running as part of the support program at selected 2016 V8 Supercars events, Toyota today claimed owners of Toyota 86 vehicles with a manual transmission can take part in the five race series, including the Bathurst 1000, for less than around $70,000.

The Toyota 86 Racing Series is looking for more competitors for season 2016.

To have your Toyota 86 race-ready, Toyota ambassador and four times Australian Rally Champion Neal Bates has worked with a range of specialists to develop a high-performance, low-cost race package.

The kit, approved by the Confederation of Australian Motorsport (CAMS), includes an adjustable front and rear coil-over damping system, upgraded brakes and AP Racing callipers 18” alloy rims.

While the kit also includes a custom exhaust system, TRD engine oil cooler and Motec M150 Electronic Control Unit (ECU). A modified throttle stop, specific rear spoiler and baffled sump pan complete the list of required NBM elements for a total price under $25,000.

Neal Bates telling Behind the Wheel Motorsport News the kit has been designed to be a balance between performance, tune-ability and budget.

“Drivers of all ages will benefit from the driveability we’ve added through the exhaust and ECU tune, at the same time developing their set-up skills with the adjustable coil-overs.”

In addition to the mandatory kit, competition cars must be fitted with a Toyota 86 Racing Series-compliant roll-cage and CAMS-compliant race seat and multi-point harness.
