2017 BMW models impress road safety authorities in the U.S…

There are popular models in Australia, now local buyers of the BMW X1 and BMW 2 Series also come with the peace of mind of impressive U.S. safety scores.

The non-profit Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has crash test both BMW models and handed both models a ‘Top Safety Pick’ classification.

To achieve that rating a car must receive good ratings in five different crash tests, and the safety systems fitted to the vehicle are also taken into.

The IIHS praised the BMW X1 for its body and structure design, saying that the new-generation model incorporates a roomier interior, greater efficiency and technology on the forefront of innovation.

While the BMW 2 Series was praised for its body structure integrity receiving a top rating in all crashworthiness tests.

In Australia, the BMW X1 carries a five-star ANCAP safety rating, at this stage the 2 Series is yet to receive a safety score from the testing authority.
