The Finke Desert Race tests man and machine like few other motorsport events and motorcycle ace Toby Price is set to enjoy his first foray into the event on four-wheels this year.
Toby, who became the first Australian to win the Dakar Rally earlier this year, will make his debut in an off-road racing Trophy Truck at this month’s event and has chosen Michelin Group’s specialist off-road brand, BFGoodrich Tires for the truck.
While the four-wheel entry will be running on BFGoodrich Baja T/A KR2 tyres, Toby’s two-wheel KTM entry in the event will run Michelin rubber.
Michelin Group Australian Managing Director, Cedric Binoit, said the Aussie outback conditions will test tyres to the limit.
“When we heard what Toby was going to attempt our first thought was that he was crazy, but then excitement about the challenge took over,”
“For us, the best test bed for our new technology is racing – what we learn at the highest level is used to design and develop our non-competition tyres.
“The demands Finke places on the tyres fitted to any vehicle, be it a bike, buggy, or truck, are extreme, so to win requires the best equipment.
“We have a long history of success there with both BFGoodrich Tires and Michelin and we hope our tyres deliver Toby the performance he needs.”
