Three-star safety score for Ford Mustang

Ford sports car gets extra star

One of the biggest car news stories of the year was the awarding of just a two-star safety rating to the Ford Mustang.

Now, after Ford made some improvements to the car, European testing has shown the model deserves a slightly more respectable three-star safety rating.

We will bring you news on when/if the model gets the same upgrade here.

The new Euro NCAP rating comes after Ford fitted Pedestrian Detection, Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) and a Lane Keeping Aid as standard to the car.

They also addressed a ‘bottoming-out’ issue with the driver’s airbag.

“In just a few months, Ford has responded to improve on the initial low safety rating given to the Mustang,” comments Matthew Avery, director of research at road safety organisation, Thatcham Research.

“Our advice to buyers is to always opt for a five-star car, so a three-star rating is never a cause for celebration.

“However, Ford’s rapid addition of a suite of standard-fit safety tech and its prompt updates to improve the performance of the airbags and restraints is to be applauded.”
