They are a vehicle manufacturer to watch and now have an extremely cost-effective seven-seat diesel SUV on the Australian market, complete with an auto transmission.

In the meantime, here are some facts you might not have known about this giant Indian automotive force:

  1. Mahindra first built the Willy’s Jeep under license after World War Two.
  2. Mahindra Australia boasts a network of more than 35 Australian dealerships.
  3. Mahindra employs over 200,000 people in over 100 countries.
  4. Forbes recently named Mahindra one of the world’s largest, most powerful public companies.
  5. Mahindra also builds aircraft – the Airvan 8 and Airvan 10.
  6. Mahindra owns the South Korean car company, SsangYong.
  7. Mahindra operates vehicle assembly plants in India, China, the US and the UK.
  8. Mahindra owns the REVA electric car company, one of the Top 50 Most Innovative Companies, according to Fast Company Magazine.
  9. Mahindra sells more than 200,000 tractors annually (more than any other company).
  10. Mahindra-REVA compete in the FIA Formula E Championship.
