Great Wall Motors considering Jeep purchase?

They’re rumours that just won’t go away – a Chinese car company buying Jeep, and potentially more of, or even the entire FCA (Fiat Chrysler) organisation.

It’s believed that Great Wall Motors is doing the sums and would love to get their hands on the famous Jeep brand and may be willing to invest big dollars to get it.

Great Wall Motors is proving one of the big movers and shakers in China, especially with its HAVAL SUV brand, and is intent on growing internationally.

Great Wall has set it’s sights on being the world leader in SUVs and the established Jeep brand could just be the ticket to get them close to that goal.

Automotive News reports that Great Wall has admitted it is interested and has made contact with FCA, parent company of Jeep.

“We are deeply interested in the Jeep brand and have paid close attention to it for a long time,”- Xu Hui, Great Wall spokesperson.

But FCA is denying a deal is close to be signed.

A statement from Lucy McLellan, Head of Asian-Pacific Communications at FCA, released this morning says the rumours are wide of the mark.

In response to market rumours regarding a potential interest of Great Wall Motors in the Jeep brand, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles confirmed that it has not been approached by Great Wall Motors in connection with the Jeep brand or any other matter relating to its business.

FCA is fully committed to its 2014-18 plan, having achieved each one of its targets to date and with only six quarters left to its completion.

Jeep is seen as ‘the jewel in the crown’ of FCA, sitting above the Chrysler, Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Fiat and RAM brands in many industry analysts eyes.
