Another possible fault found in Mitsubishi’s EV…
A second recall in 24 hours has been announced for the Mitsubishi i-MiEV.
The revolutionary Mitsubishi EV is no longer available in Australia, however owners who purchased one between the 30th of March 2010 and the 21st of March 2011 are being contacted after a possibly serious driveline issue was identified.
The recall comes just a day after it was confirmed the i-MiEV was involved in the global Takata Airbag Recalls (details here).
This recall is also being overseen by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and affects the GY series of the Mitsubishi i-MiEV.

The recall notice advises that Improper Cell Motor Unit (CMU) judgment of changes to the temperature and voltage of the main traction battery can occur when the vehicle is rolling backwards.
What are the hazards?
In the worst-case scenario, the vehicle may not accelerate forward but roll backwards when on an incline, posing an accident risk for the vehicle occupants.
Mitsubishi Motors Australia will contact all known owners by mail and advise them to present their vehicle to their preferred dealer to have software of the Cell Motor Unit (CMU) upgraded.
