MG GS falls short of full ANCAP rating

MG SUV gains a four-star safety rating

ANCAP have crash tested the Chinese built MG GS and given it a four-star safety rating.

The MG GS, expected to launch locally in coming months, is devoid of autonomous emergency braking, lane support systems and intelligent seat belt reminders for second row occupants.

ANCAP CEO James Goodwin says it was the lack of these safety features where the MG was let down.

“The GS is a good car structurally, offering sound levels of occupant protection however consumers have come to expect a higher standard of safety features and the MG’s safety specification is lacking.”

The ANCAP chief is telling us he hopes MG can take the steps required to boost the model up to a five-star rating.

“We are working with MG to see if a specification upgrade can be put in place in the hope the model can offer another 5 star option for medium SUV buyers.”
