Suzuki claims gold in micro/light sales race in March

2017 sales data shows Suzuki topped rivals on private sales…

The VFACTS data that we report on every month is very comprehensive, however we in the media don’t get a split of how many sales were to private buyers, or government and business buyers.

For example, the Hyundai Accent was the top-selling car in the light car segment last year, however Mazda tell us they found more Mazda2 sedan/hatch buyers among regular car buyers than the Hyundai rival.

Same goes with the Honda Odyssey and Kia Carnival – the Kia, overall, is the bigger seller, however the guys at Honda are always keen to point out that generally they found more private buyers than the Kia.

Once again, we have a similar issue in regards to the March 2017 car sales data.

Suzuki Australia, which operates across every state and territory except Queensland (there is a separate Suzuki import/distribution business operating in that state), tell us they actually sold the most cars to private buyers in the micro/light segments.

We can’t dispute that (because we don’t have the conclusive data), however we can confirm that the brand did have solid sales numbers, especially in the light car segment in March.

VFACTS data shows the Japanese car company delivered 38 Suzuki Celerio vehicles in the micro car segment, and then 387 and 357 sales respectively to the Baleno and Swift.

Overall, Suzuki car sales in March were 1,792, a total down -1.9% on the same month last year.

While the best-selling Suzuki vehicle in Australia in March was again the Vitara with 521 sales and that number is 19.8% higher than March 2016.

So far in 2017, Suzuki Vitara sales are up a significant 53.3%.
