Subaru takes honours in Southern Safari Tasmania

The Subaru do rally team and driver Molly Taylor blew out the cobwebs at the Southern Safari Tasmania event on the weekend and came away with the silverware.

Taylor and Bill Hayes beat home the field in the 98.86km event by 29.6 seconds over Marcus and Scott Walkem in their Mitsubishi Evo IX.

The event proved a handy exercise for the team coming in the middle of a 10-week gap in the Australian Rally Championship (ARC) calendar.

The win by Molly Taylor is believed to be the first by a female driver in the history of the Tasmanian championship.

“We didn’t have a great start, with a puncture in the first loop of stages.” Taylor said.

“From there the challenge was on and we really enjoyed battling with the Walkem brothers.

“Our first win for our‪ car is a great moment for the whole team, so a huge thanks to them!

“Also to the organisers for putting on such a well-run event on fantastic roads.”

Taylor currently sits in third place in the ARC Driver’s Championship, 8 points behind Simon Evans and 35 points behind leader Harry Bates.

The next ARC round will be staged in South Australia from the 9th of September.
