Software issue sees Volkswagen Golf and Passat recalled

Concerns lights may not operate correctly on Volkswagen cars…

A recall of just under 2400 Volkswagen Golf Wagon and Volkswagen Passat vehicles has been initiated after a possible electrical system fault was identified.

The recall affects MY16 and MY17 Volkswagen cars, you can check to see whether your Volkswagen is affected here (have your VIN handy).

Being overseen by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), the recall notice says the software error may cause an inoperative dipped beam, main beam, daytime running light, rear fog light or indicator bulb to not be indicated to the driver.

Operative bulbs may also be shown to be inoperative.

What are the hazards?

This may present a hazard to the occupants of the vehicle or other road users, especially in low light conditions or at night.

Affected Volkswagen Golf/Passat owners will be contacted by direct mail and asked to contact their nearest Volkswagen dealership to arrange an inspection and update of the body control module software.
