Volkswagen suffers a 2.6% drop in global demand in February…
The run of strong sales increases for Volkswagen in recent times came to a halt in February with the German car giants suffering a 2.6% decline in sales.
In Australia, there was also a slip backwards, the local operation was down 6.2% on the same month last year.
Volkswagen sales this year in Australia are down 7.0%.
Looking at the wider result, Volkswagen has reported total sales of 384,100 vehicles in February, in Europe, deliveries fell by 9.5% and sales in the brand’s home market were down a worrying 19.8%.
On a brighter note, hunger for Volkswagen vehicles increased in Russia (+17.8%), USA (+12.7%), the Czech Republic (+25.6%) and Poland (+21.0%).
While sales were flat in China.

- Volkswagen Amarok 4X4 - 756 (+5.9%)
- Volkswagen Polo - 543 (-24.2%)
- Volkswagen Passat - 201 (-18.3%)
- Volkswagen Touareg - 149 (-10.2%)
- Volkswagen Transporter - 119 (+13.3%)
Global sales chief at Volkswagen, Jürgen Stackmann, says the arrival soon of new products will help the lift brand up into positive territory once again.
“Over the next few months, we expect new models such as the Arteon and the new Polo will have a positive impact.”
