Skoda Octavia and Rapid recalled over child lock issue

Child safety lock sees Skoda Octavia/Rapid vehicles recalled

If you own a current series Skoda Octavia or Skoda Rapid you should expect to get a recall notice in the mail shortly.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is overseeing the recall that involves the child safety locks fitted to the MY16 Skoda vehicles.

The ACCC recall notice advising that the detent lever of the child lock can break because it was damaged during the production process.

As a result of this an active child lock can unnoticeably be switched off.

This may lead to the rear doors being operable from inside the vehicle.

What are the hazards?

A child may be able to inadvertently open a rear door from the inside with the child lock on, potentially causing injury to a third party or increasing the risk of injury to occupants inside the vehicle.

A letter is being sent to affected owners of the vehicles and further information is available from Volkswagen Authorised Service Centres or Volkswagen Customer care on 1800 607 822.
