Faster and more striking, that’s the way Audi has described the new second-generation Audi R8.

To be officially unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in the next couple of days, the new R8 features a not revolutionarily different exterior, though Audi has added all-LED headlights and dynamic turn signals at the rear.

Inside the cabin of the R8, Audi has opted to add a new ‘virtual cockpit’ with digital displays and simplified buttons and controls – Audi saying the end result is a cockpit that feels more like a racing car than the previous model.

Finally, to possibly the most important bits – the engine and drivetrain, and Audi have fitted the second-generation R8 with a new-generation quattro all-wheel drive system, new seven-speed auto transmission and upgraded V10 engines available in two grades.

Audi R8 buyers will get the choice of the ‘standard’ 5.2 litre FSI engine that produces 397kW and 540Nm, or, if that’s not enough, there’s a high-output version in the R8 V10 plus that cranks out 448kW and 560Nm!

Newly developed from the ground up, Audi board member for technical development Dr Ulrich Hackenberg says the new R8 is even better than the ground-breaking first edition model.

“With the new Audi R8, our engineers are bringing accumulated racing expertise from the race track onto the road.”

“The new R8 V10 plus is therefore the most powerful and fastest series-production Audi of all time.”
