160 new gas-powered Scania buses to hit the streets…
Scania has been at the forefront of gas bus/truck engine technology and now the Swedish manufacturer is fulfilling a significant order for its gas-powered buses.
The Spanish capital, Madrid, is renewing its fleet of buses and this will see Scania deliver 160 new 12-metre low floor buses to the city – all will be powered by either natural gas or bio-gas.
80 of the new buses will be delivered this year with another 80 buses added to the fleet in 2018.
Already, 46 Scania gas buses ordered last year are on the job in Madrid and the city hopes to have half of its total 1,500+ bus fleet running on gas by 2025.
The Scania Biogas/Natural gas bus/truck engines produce up to 320hp and 1500Nm and are fully Euro 6 compliant.
“Thanks to lower carbon emissions and noise reduction, interest in gas-fuelled operations has surged worldwide,” says Anna Carmo e Silva, Head of Buses and Coaches at Scania.
“The Scania buses with the acclaimed Euro 6 gas engine is comparable in performance to a diesel engine.
“It is therefore an increasingly popular option, especially among European operators.”
