More safety accolades for Mazda CX-9

Mazda CX-9 gets top safety score in U.S.

Our 2016 Car of the Year, Mazda’s CX-9 SUV, has just received a maximum safety rating in the U.S.

Already holding a five-star ANCAP safety rating in Australia, the seven-seat Mazda CX-9 now also boasts a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS).

The safety rating is the highest score the IIHS provides.

The non-profit agency says the Mazda CX-9 excelled in collision and occupancy protection tests with the highest ratings and passed the stringent new headlight tests with its standard LED lighting.

Masashi Otsuka is the Vice President of R&D and design at Mazda North America, says the CX-9 is one of the best vehicles ever designed and built by Mazda.

“We wanted to create a vehicle that could delight couples or shuttle families with the same effortlessness.

“Now, we are proud to say that the IIHS has recognized CX-9 for its safety, highlighting the achievements of our engineering team.”
