Owners of Ford Mondeo station wagons in Australia may have improperly secured roof racks fitted to their vehicle.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is now overseeing a recall of Rhino Rack Roof Racks designed for Ford Mondeo station wagons.

Carrying a part number of SX020 or Ford44, the suspect roof racks were sold in Australia by Rhino Rack stockists and Ford dealerships between the 2nd of September 2013 and the 18th of October 2017.

The roof racks fit Ford Mondeo station wagons built between 2012 and 2017 with solid rails.

The recall notice advises that Rhino Rack has identified that some roof rack kits may contain one or more incorrect legs.

The incorrect legs do not have the appropriate ‘lip’ in their profile to help create clamping pressure to the vehicle roof.

What are the hazards?

If the incorrect legs are used the roof racks and any items attached to them may separate from the vehicle, posing an accident risk to the vehicle occupants and other road users.

What should owners do?

Consumers should return the legs to the place of purchase where they will be given correct replacement legs at no cost.

Further info is also available from the Rhino Racks website.
