Recall of older Kia Sportage SUVs underway

2008-09 models of the Kia Sportage found to have electrical system issue…

A total of 531 KM Series Kia Sportage SUVs are being recalled in Australia after a possible electrical fault was identified.

The affected vehicles were all produced in 2008 and 2009 and the recall is being overseen by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

The recall notice advises that the wiring harness connector pins in the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) assembly may corrode due to improper sealing of the HECU’s wiring harness connector.

An electrical short circuit may occur if moisture contaminated with road salt reaches the HECU’s circuit board.

The ESC warning light may also illuminate.

The notice warning that an electrical short circuit could result in an engine compartment fire.

Affected Australian Kia Sportage owners will be contacted by direct mail and asked to contact their nearest Kia dealer to arrange for an inspection and any necessary repairs.
