Station wagons, wagons, tourers, estates…whatever you want to call them, are not necessarily the flavour of the month with car buyers, however BMW has put a lot of effort into its newest ‘Touring’ model.
Today, BMW also revealed details of the 2017 BMW 5 Series Touring and the biggest news is what isn’t in the new car.
No, not less features, we’re talking a serious weight-reduction.
BMW tell us they have put the new 5 Series wagon on a diet and the end result is up to a massive 100kg weight reduction.
BMW says this helps the new offering deliver dynamic excellence, agility and precision.
Oh, and very handy fuel consumption reductions of up to 11%!
The significant weight reduction comes despite the 5 Series wagon growing significantly in this new generation – it’s 36mm longer, 8mm wider, and has a wheelbase that is 7mm longer.
BMW tell us these extra proportions lead to a significant increase in on-board spaciousness and extra cargo space in the rear.
In Australia, we await final details of the model range and specifications for the 5 Series Touring, though overseas the model will be offered in four variants, these range from the entry-level 530i to the all-wheel drive 530d xDrive.
We will bring you all the details of the new BMW 5 Series from the models Australian launch and you can also stay up to date with BMW 5 Series News here.
