New-gen Volkswagen Polo gets five-star safety score

Volkswagen’s 6th gen city car gets maximum safety rating

Good news for Australian car buyers awaiting the arrival of the new-generation Volkswagen Polo – the new offering will land locally with the peace of mind of a five-star safety rating.

Euro NCAP has crash tested the new sixth-generation Polo across the four key test areas: Adult Occupant, Child Occupant, Pedestrian and Safety Assist (assistance systems).

The new Volkswagen Polo gaining a score of 96 out of 100 in ‘Adult Occupant’ testing – a score classified as being “very good”.

In the ‘Child Occupant’ protection test area, Euro NCAP rated the Polo with a figure of 85% - a new top figure in its segment.

It also achieved 76% in ‘Pedestrian protection’ and 59% in the area for assistance systems.

Euro NCAP telling us that the Polo has, as standard, a seatbelt reminder system for the front and rear seats, a driver-set speed limiter and an autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system.

Tests of the AEB system at highway speeds demonstrated good performance with most collisions avoided or mitigated.
