BMW Motorrad USA has introduced a totally new concept in on-board luggage and personal storage for the growing number of adventure riders.
The new Atacama Adventure Luggage System is primarily designed for off road use on the GS-model ranges of adventure bikes, and uses the same case carrier system developed for the original BMW aluminium cases.
The system consists of soft construction side cases and a top mounted duffle bag that can be converted into a hiking backpack.
The construction gives riders an extra level of flexibility and security when navigating more challenging riding conditions.
The side cases are available in two sizes (25 and 35 litres), and have a carrying capacity of up to 10kg each. The duffel can carry an additional 5kg.
Unlike traditional soft luggage systems that use straps to mount, the Atacama system uses a wedge mounting system.
This system is made from injection moulded glass-filled plastic just like the hard case system, making the bags more secure than traditional “over the seat” softbags and strap-based connection systems when riding in rough terrain.
The bags are made from PVC and ballistic nylon materials, have high abrasion resistance and are waterproof.
Currently, the Atacama Adventure Luggage System is only available through authorised BMW Motorrad USA dealers.
But Michael Hernandez, Manager of Parts and Accessories for BMW Motorrad USA said the product was developed in the US with the needs of global adventure motorcycle riders in mind, suggesting it will find it’s way into other markets, including Australia, in the near future.
The system will suit the following BMW Motorrad models:
- K25 (2004 - 2013) R 1200 GS/GS Adventure with BMW aluminium case mounting installed)
- K50/51 (2013 - present) R 1200 GS/GS Adventure with BMW aluminium case mounting installed)
- K72 (2008 - present) F 650/700/800 GS with BMW aluminium case mounting installed)
- K75 (2014 - present) F 800 GS Adventure)
