Mitsubishi Mirage storms back to the top

Mitsubishi Mirage was top-selling Micro Car in July 2016

After a disappointing June sales result, in which it was relegated to third-position in the Micro Car sales race, the Mitsubishi Mirage stormed back to number one in July.

VFACTS sales data shows that in July 2016, Mitsubishi’s Mirage was the top-selling micro car with 514 sales, or a commanding 44.1% share of the market.

The 4% jump in sales for the budget-priced Mitsubishi sedan and hatch model also helped put the brakes on a worrying 36.9% slump in sales across the first seven months of the year.

Interestingly, the now discontinued Nissan Micra was the second-best selling model in July with 271 sales.

While the new kids on the block – the recently launched new Holden Spark and Kia Picanto found 273 and 154 customers respectively.

1,166 micro cars were sold in July 2016, that number up 13.3% on the same month last year, a welcome result given the segment has receded by 21.5% so far this year.
