A possibly dangerous transmission fault has been identified in some Mercedes-Benz trucks sold in Australia.

The recall is being overseen by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and both Mercedes-Benz Actros and Arocs trucks are involved.

All of the 399 trucks being recalled were sold in Australia between the 18th of November 2016 and the 9th of May 2017.

The recall notice advises that on affected vehicles the screw/bolt in the range group catch bolts may come loose.

What are the hazards?

This would reduce the distance of the catch bolt, resulting in gear shifting problems and possible failure of the gearshift system.

The loss of shifting capability during vehicle operation may lead to a loss of forward movement and coasting of the vehicle, increasing the risk of an accident for the occupants and the surrounding traffic.

What should owners of affected vehicles do?

Owners are requested to contact their authorised Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicle dealership to have their truck inspected and repaired.
