Mercedes-Benz C-Class or BMW 3 Series?

Mercedes-Benz C-Class or BMW 3 Series? Hard to go past that Mercedes-Benz styling!

Hey gentlemen, European car question for you. Mercedes-Benz C-Class or BMW 3 Series? Your pick and why? From Gordon who listens in via Flow FM in South Australia.

Thanks Gordon, glad to hear you hear us via our friends on the Flow FM Radio Network! We put the question to some of the Behind the Wheel team for you, and also special guest Steve Spalding from RACQ…

Steve Spalding - Gordon, both the Mercedes-Benz and the BMW models come from safe brands with very good reputations, I reckon you should take both for a test drive and look for the little differences.

Do you feel more comfortable in one car over the other? Do you have a preference regarding the way one happens to drive compared to the other, etc. Buy the car that suits you and fits you best, oh and don’t forget to spend only what you feel comfortable with.

Chris Miller - The BMW 3 Series provides a really dynamic and satisfying drive, though you would have to say the Mercedes-Benz C-Class is the more modern offering, especially inside. If I had to make the choice I would probably lean towards the Mercedes.

Peter Hitchener - Hi Gordon, I think both models will give you excellent resale, the C-Class from Mercedes-Benz is definitely the newer and fresher of the two. Still, can you ever go wrong with a BMW 3 Series? As Steve said, take them both for a good long drive, only then will you really know which one you prefer and which one you want more.

Joel Helmes - The BMW 3 Series is hard to go past. I know the Mercedes-Benz is newer and the BMW interior is a bit dated, still, it drives so well and if you like a car that really handles and has a great “machine like” feel then the BMW might just be the one you go for. Still, the new C-Class won World Car of the Year this year and that’s hard to ignore. Either way, happy motoring - you will be well looked after by both!
