Medium and large cars still on top in 2017

Majority of Behind the Wheel readers still resisting SUVs…

The SUV market in Australia is booming ahead, however a Behind the Wheel web poll has found there are still plenty of people getting about in Medium/Large cars.

We asked the question - What sort of vehicle do you own/drive?

After more than 500 votes it was Medium/large cars that commanded the most votes (26%), ahead of Micro/small cars (23%), Small SUV/Crossover (19%), and Medium/large SUV/4×4 (14%).

While the Ute/Pick-up/Van selection claimed 10% of the vote, ahead of People-mover (6%) and Other (4%).

Behind the Wheel Editor, Joel Helmes, says car manufacturers would probably welcome the result.

“Our web poll showed that there are plenty of potential SUVs buyers in coming years as these people possibly move into new vehicles.

“There has been a trend in recent years of full-size passenger car owners shifting over to SUVs/4x4s and dual-cab utes and this is likely to continue into the future,”

“In total, 49% of respondents still drive passenger cars and this is probably a pretty accurate reflection of the mix of cars on Australian roads at the moment.”

“Holden would be happy with the result too, with the new Commodore set to have the large passenger car market almost to itself soon.”
