Maxus Truck Trailer Brake Shoes Recalled

Asbestos concerns see Maxus truck trailer brake shoes recalled.

Maxus Truck Trailer Brake Shoes Recalled - the suspect brake shoes were sold by MaxiPARTS between September 2013 and December 2015.

Australian truck owners and operators are being asked to check whether they have had Maxus branded lined brake shoes fitted to their truck trailers.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission is now overseeing a recall of the brake shoes which were sold nationally between the 1st of September 2013 and the 27th of November 2015.

The ACCC recall notice says there could be a minor quantity of bonded asbestos in the brake shoe lining.

For new, unused brake shoes, the risk of exposure to airborne asbestos due to handling, packing or unpacking is negligible.

Caution must be taken if carrying out maintenance. Procedures have been prepared and implemented to ensure that the brake shoes are handled correctly by mechanics during maintenance of the vehicles.

Any work involving these brake shoes should be carried out by an authorised licensed motor mechanic who has been made aware of these procedures.

For brake shoes that have been fitted and are in use, please refer to these remediation instructions found here.

More info is also available on the ACCC recall notice and the MaxiPARTS website.
