Forget everything you know, or think you know about Mahindra – this is a vehicle manufacturer that is going places.
The Indian auto giants have made a name for themselves with value-priced farm equipment, utes and 4x4s, however the future of Mahindra looks set to include a significant number of electric vehicles.
At the Auto Expo 2018 event in India this week Mahindra has taken the covers off, or committed to, a host of electric models, including:
- The UDO, a 2-seater electric pod concept
- The ATOM, an urban mobility solution for India
- The Treo, a Lithium-ion battery powered electric three-wheeler
- The e2o NXT, a refreshed version of the e2oPlus hatchback
- The eKUV100, India’s first electric mini SUV
- The e-Cosmo, the company’s new electric bus
Anand Mahindra is the boss of the Mahindra Group, he tells us the future is electric drive.
“The time is right to develop sustainable mobility solutions for the future.”
“Mahindra’s electric pavilion at the Auto Expo showcases our vision of the Future of Mobility - one that offers Clean, Connected and Convenient vehicles to our consumers in India and around the world.”
Another interesting innovation unveiled by Mahindra was the MESMA (Mahindra Electric Scalable Modular Architecture) powertrain.
Designed to be scalable to use in different applications, the powertrain operates at a hefty 380 Volts and is said to be able to accommodate a range of different kinds of vehicles, while retaining high efficiency and performance.
We’ll keep an eye on Mahindra into the future, they look like one vehicle manufacturer to watch!
