Mahindra has launched what it calls the “New Age” Mahindra XUV500 in India trying to boost its standing in the SUV market by packing in better styling, technology and features.

Under the bonnet the new model will be powered by a 2.2 litre turbo-diesel engine that delivers 103kW/330Nm, transmission choice will initially be six-speed manual only, an auto version expected in Australia next year.

From the outside the updated Mahindra XUV500 has a new overall ‘muscular’ shape, chrome highlights, a new front grille and bending headlamps to help around corners.

The interior is equipped with two tone dash, leather seats, 7 inch infotainment screen with sat nav, alloy pedals and reversing camera.

In addition, the W10 is poised to come with push button ignition and passive keyless entry, powered driver’s seat and an electric sunroof.

Expected in local Mahindra dealers later in the year, Mahindra’s Executive Director Pawan Goenka said he believes the new XUV500 can be a world class product.

“We have enhanced the finesse and driving experience while retaining the DNA of the XUV500.”
