June 2016 US car sales data shows healthy increases for Ford, Kia and Nissan

There was plenty in the US June car sales data to make executives from Ford, Kia and Nissan smile with sales up strongly in the month.

On the other side of the coin, Toyota and GM suffered sales downturns, going backwards 5.6% and 1.6% respectively, when compared to their result from the same month last year.

Overall, US car sales in June 2016 hit 16.67 million, 2.5% more than the same month in 2015.

Car buyers in the US also following the trend of turning away from passenger cars, sales were down 8% from a year earlier.

While demand for light trucks and SUVs continued to gain with light trucks accounting for 58.9% of June sales, up from 54.2% a year ago.

June US Car Sales Top Six Manufacturer Results:

  • General Motors - 255,210 (down 1.6%)
  • Ford – 239,096 (up 6.4%)
  • Toyota – 198,257 (down 5.6%)
  • FCA – 197,073 (up 6.5%)
  • Nissan – 140,553 (up 13.1%)
  • Honda – 138,715 (up 3.2%)
