Australian vehicle sales in January 2017 up 0.6%...

The Australian car sales in industry has got off to a positive start to 2017 will a solid sales result in January.

VFACTS data shows Australians took delivery of 84,910 new vehicles in the month, a 0.6% increase on the same month in 2015.

Toyota was again the nation’s favourite brand, the Japanese brand selling 12,554 vehicles in the month to claim a 14.5% market share.

While the Mazda3 (pictured) proved to be Australia’s favourite model – the Mazda small car claiming over 21% of the small car market with 3,473 sales.

Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) chief, Tony Weber, says the January results shows the market is in good shape.

“It’s a very good indicator for the year to come.”

“Coming off the back of another record sales year, we’re pleased to see a modest gain, with private buyers active in the market and taking advantage of the offers out there from the brands,”
