Hauling B-Double or B-Triple trailers full of livestock on often less than fantastic roads can be about as tough a life as a prime mover can have.

But Trans Australian Livestock are happy to say their fleet of Iveco trucks are proving up to the task.

The South Australian-based business first invested in an Iveco Powerstar 7200 and more recently took delivery of a Powerstar 7800, a vehicle that has already covered over 100,000km.

Operations Manager, Jason Thornhill, telling Behind the Wheel Truck News that the Iveco product is up to any challenge thrown at it.

“I like the fact that underneath it has Cummins power, an Eaton Roadranger transmission and other American componentry – it’s reliable and easy-to-service.

“We have five mechanics on staff and do all our own servicing, having a common drivetrain provides us with a lot of efficiency when it comes to servicing and maintenance.”

And he says the 550hp power plant under the bonnet is also proving extremely efficient.

“I’m very pleased with the fuel figures that the Powerstar is returning, it’s hovering at about 1.4 to 1.5 kilometres per litre, hauling two full trailers – that’s an excellent outcome.”

While Trans Australian Livestock has also just placed an order for another Iveco.

“The truck is performing well and the follow-up and support from the team at Adelaide Iveco is outstanding.

“If there are any issues or concerns, they’re quick to deal with it and they’re a great bunch of guys to deal with, this has given us the confidence to order a second 7800.”
