Heavy truck demand booming in China

The booming construction industry in China is feeding escalating growth in heavy truck sales in the nation.

Truck sales data just released shows that for the first six months of 2016 demand for heavy trucks in China skipped ahead 14% with 338,000 heavy trucks sold.

Full-year sales are expected to reach 618,000, an increase of 12.2% on the 2015 result.

There are three truck manufacturers that dominate about 50% of the market with seven other manufacturers fighting over the other 50%.

Those top-selling brands include FAW Jiefang, China National Heavy Duty Truck Group (Sinotruk), and Dongfeng Motor.

FAW Jiefang has long been a champion in the prime mover market, while Sinotruk and Dongfeng Motor hold the lion’s share of complete and incomplete heavy truck markets.

ResearchInChina, who released the sales data, is predicting that heavy trucks will become larger and more intelligent in China with 13L large displacement and 500HP-above high-end tractor set to be the leading products over the next five years.
