Ford Fiesta under threat in Australia?

Production shift threatens Fiesta

The local future of the Ford Fiesta might be under threat with reports Ford’s Thailand production facility won’t be producing the new-generation Fiesta.

The new seventh-generation model was revealed back in December of last year and is coming online now in a number of markets including the UK.

The European models are generally sourced from Germany or Spain, while most of the Ford Fiestas historically sold in Australia have come out of Thailand.

Rumours are now circling that the Asian plant won’t be producing that new-gen model and that could threaten the feasibility of the Ford light car in Australia.

GoAuto recently asked the boss of Ford Australia, Graeme Whickman, about whether the rumours were true.

He told the publication that a decision was yet to be made.

New 2018 Ford Fiesta may not make it to Australia

The rumours come as Ford Fiesta sales continue to struggle in Australia.

VFACTS data shows Ford delivered 716 Fiestas up until the end of May, that number is a 40% drop on the same period last year.

We’ll keep you updated as further info comes to hand and you can also stay up to date in our Ford Fiesta News section.
