Range Rover Sport the first model to get electrification

The first steps towards the complete electrification of the Land Rover range have been taken with deliveries of the new plug-in hybrid Range Rover Sport confirmed for early next year in Europe.

It was announced last month that all Jaguar Land Rover vehicles in dealerships from 2020 will have some form of driveline electrification, now comes confirmation that we will see that offering in Australia in April 2018.

Land Rover has even confirmed the local pricing of the model at this early stage – it will start from $95,100.

But will the plug-in hybrid Range Rover Sport be capable off-road? Land Rover say “yes”.

They tell us the Terrain Response 2 tech has a unique calibration to distribute torque from the electric motor to the wheels.

The British car brand saying this gives greater control during low-speed off-road manoeuvres.

Matthew Wiesner, Managing Director Jaguar Land Rover Australia, tells us the new offering will be an exciting addition to the local range.

“We expect that the new technology and upgrades to the 2018 Range Rover Sport will be of great appeal to our customers.

“For the first-time Australian customers will experience zero-emission near-silent on and off-road luxury without compromising any off-road capability.”
