Final Aussie-built Holden produced

Holden local production came to an end earlier today

It’s a sad day for Australian manufacturing with confirmation the final Aussie-built Holden has just rolled off the production line.

Coming 70 years after the first Holden was bolted together, the local shutdown has been an emotional affair for the many local Holden workers, many of which have been on the production line for decades.

The final Australian-built Holden vehicle left the production line a short time ago in Adelaide – the car that had the honour of being the last off the line was a Commodore Redline.

Holden said in a statement that a private ceremony was held for employees to mark Holden’s proud manufacturing history and pay tribute to the generations of hard-working men and women who literally built the Holden legend.

From now, every Holden in dealerships will be produced overseas, including Thailand, South Korea and the U.S.

Holden produced cars in Australia between November 1948 and October 2017.

“Today is about paying tribute to the generations of men and women across Holden and our supply network who have given so much to our company.” Said Holden boss Mark Bernhard.

“Holden is the icon it is today only because of these passionate people.

“On behalf of everyone at Holden, I thank you for your service from the bottom of my heart.”
