Elio Motors debut model to start under $7,000

Elio Motors has announced prospective buyers of its US-built three-wheel E-Series car will get to purchase their vehicle at a special discounted price.

After taking more than 56,000 ‘reservations’ for its debut model, Elio Motors tell us those who placed a non-refundable reservation will be able to access their car from around $7,300 US ($9,500 AUD).

In a statement released overnight, Elio Motors said the offer will continue until the company reaches a total of 65,000 reservations.

No word though on what the actual RRP on the model will be after that point.

The statement saying that by establishing a base price, this allows them to accept binding purchase commitments from non-refundable reservation holders.

The 65,000 reservations will allow Elio Motors to potentially qualify for a $185 million (US) Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing (ATVM) loan from the Department of Energy (DOE).

Elio Motors Founder and CEO, Paul Elio, says the company is moving towards customer deliveries.

“We are on the path to launching an extraordinary vehicle, as well, but are setting an even more aggressive and affordable price, and doing so in a way that will create American jobs, reduce our dependence on foreign oil, be better for the environment and strengthen American manufacturing.”

“We applaud the DOE’s recent ATVM guidelines, as it raises the bar for companies like Elio Motors,”

“Anything that makes us work harder to strengthen our company is ultimately going to be good for our future customers, our team members, our shareholders and the communities where we build, sell and service the Elio.”

We will keep you updated on future developments.
