Dashboard issue sees BMW X1 recalled

More than 2,300 BMW X1 SUVs recalled in Australia…

A possible safety issue relating to the dashboard of BMW X1 SUVs has been identified.

Affecting vehicles sold in Australia between the 1st of June 2016 and the 30th of April 2017 the recall is being overseen by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

The recall notice advises that during production of the dashboard panel the process of milling the ‘weak points or deployment points’ in the passenger side of the panel has not been carried out.

These points are used as a break point of the dashboard panel if the passenger airbag is triggered.

What are the hazards?

This may cause the passenger side airbag to not deploy correctly in an accident, posing a higher risk of injury to the front passenger.

Affected BMW X1 owners will be contacted by direct mail and are asked to contact an authorised BMW service centre to arrange for inspection/repairs.
