Cummins turns to electric drive

Cummins develops all-electric powertrain

Diesel and the Cummins brand go together like a pie and sauce, however no longer will the famous engine manufacturer build and market a range of diesel-only engines.

The U.S. company has just confirmed that it has developed an all-electric powertrain and they tell us it will be available within two years.

A range-extended EV is also in the Cummins pipeline.

Tom Linebarger, Cummins chairman and CEO, says the company has to move with the times.

“We understand that electrification is coming and that the world is changing,”

“Regulations and a technological point of view are driving these changes, and we think that means opportunity.

“Cummins is a power technology company.

“We will bring the right technology to markets – not just trucking, that will help our customers win while being a leading provider of those products in the future.”

No word yet on the technical specs for the new Cummins electric powertrain, we will keep you updated as further news comes to hand.
