Car News Wrap: Barina Recall, Apple Car Dramas and Ford Cars on The X-Files

The Holden Barina is being recalled to fix a potentially dangerous fuel leak.

Affecting Barina vehicles built between August 2011 and December 2013, the recall is being overseen by the ACCC.

Affected Barina’s may have been fitted with an incorrectly sized fuel pump O-ring seal during a service operation and this could result in a fuel leak and potential fire risk.

Holden is writing to affected Barina owners.

The Jaguar XE has been named 2016 Business Car of the Year.

Judged by readers of BusinessCar magazine, the XE also took out the Premium Upper Middle Car of the Year category.

BusinessCar saying the new Jaguar XE just does everything right for business and fleet buyers.

Meantime the Jaguar XE has just achieved a five-star ANCAP safety rating.

The Green Car Journal has named the Honda HR-V the Green SUV of the Year.

Recognizing the excellent fuel economy delivered by the 1.8 litre petrol engine when combined with Honda’s CVT auto transmission, Green Car Journal said the Honda HR-V crossover boasts excellent green credentials in a smart and affordable package.

Apple, are finding out that building a car is not as easy as it might have seemed, that’s according to reports coming out of the U.S.

Those reports say that at least one of the key members of the Apple Car development team, known as Project Titan, is ready to walk away and more could be prepared to follow.

Skoda has produced it’s 18-millionth vehicle. The Czech manufacturer began building cars in 1905 and is now a well-respected and increasingly popular brand in 2016.

The milestone Skoda was a candy white Skoda Suberb Estate.

A UK study has found that new car buyers highly value honest car salespeople.

The study of new car buyers, undertaken by Motors.co.uk, found that after price and choice, new car buyers wanted a salesperson that would give them honest information about their prospective new car.

The study also confirmed that the four ‘Rs’ of reputation, relationships, recommendations and rapport are still important to car buyers.

BMW has opened a new engine production plant in China. The new facility will produce up to 300,000 new generation BMW turbocharged three and four-cylinder engines annually.

Jaguar will debut the new 2017 Jaguar F-TYPE SVR at the Geneva Motor Show in February.

Featuring more power and upgraded brakes and suspension, the 200mp/h capable Jaguar sports car is expected to be in Australian Jaguar showrooms early next year.

ANCAP has awarded the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC a full five-star safety rating.

The top safety score for Australia and New Zealand coming on the back of the same maximum safety score handed to the new Mercedes-Benz SUV model by Euro NCAP in December.

The all-new Infiniti Q30 will be in Australian dealerships by the middle of the year.

Meantime, Infiniti Cars Australia tell us they have new dealerships and service centres about to come online. A new dealership in Perth is set to open and will add to the existing dealer network in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Sydney and Melbourne.

Adelaide will also get an Infiniti service centre soon.

Ford has secured prime exposure in the new The X-Files television series.

The Ford Explorer is the vehicle Agent Dana Scully will drive in the six-episode series.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has claimed three awards at the 2016 Business Vans Awards.

The Volkswagen Amarok was presented with the Best Pick up award, the Volkswagen Transporter Kombi was named Best Crew Van and Volkswagen’s UK sales support took out the Best Finance and Service Package category.

And congratulations to Toyota on the delivery of the 250,000th RAV4 to an Australian customer.

Launched in 1994, the RAV4 was Australia’s best-selling SUV in 2015.
