Should I buy a 2017 Mitsubishi Lancer?

Emma is looking for some small car advice

There’s a plethora of small cars available to Aussie car buyers and it shouldn’t be too hard to get a car that meets your needs and budget.

Emma is considering going for the Mitsubishi Lancer but was looking for our opinion on the consistently popular Mitsubishi small car.

Hi Guys, I come from a Mitsubishi family and was considering buying a new Lancer. What do you think? Feel free to nominate any options if you’re not keen on the Lancer.

I have a budget of no more than about $23,000 and need auto, air-conditioning, and a hatch is my preference.

Thanks for the email Emma, here’s some thoughts on the 2017 Mitsubishi Lancer

  • Tried and tested design and technology
  • No known serious faults with the Lancer
  • Decent interior space
  • Very sharp pricing
  • Better than industry average 5yr/100,000km warranty
  • Five-star ANCAP safety rating
  • Good list of standard features

  • Dated styling
  • Fairly bland interior design (as seen below)
  • Limited driver assist tech i.e. no Emergency Braking
  • Dull driving performance

The Mitsubishi Lancer in 2017 is certainly not the freshest apple on the tree, however it was built on an excellent platform and continues to attract a healthy number of customers.

If you don’t mind the somewhat dated look and feel then there’s really no good reason for us to point you anywhere else.

Alternatively, if you want to break away from Mitsubishi there are some great alternatives.

We reckon you should first check out the new Volkswagen Golf 7.5, Hyundai’s all-new i30, and the Kia Cerato.

While the Mazda3, Holden Astra, Toyota Corolla, Subaru Impreza and Honda Civic will also be available to you on your budget and are worth a test-drive too.

Let us know which way you go Emma and thanks again for the email.
